Our Overall Score:

4.0/5

Manufacturer: Oceanic

Fit and Comfort

The silicone skirt is soft and forgiving, which helps get a clean seal with minimal strap tension. Most divers in the “standard/medium” face range will find it comfortable.

Field of Vission

The twin-lens teardrop shape improves peripheral and downward visibility compared to more rectangular profiles, keeping situational awareness high.

Build Quality

Construction is good for the price, but it’s not built like a top-tier technical mask. Expect solid recreational reliability if you rinse and store it correctly.

Clearing & Equalization

Low internal volume helps the mask clear with a light exhale. The inner edges around the nose allow easy pinching for equalization, even with gloves.

Value For Money

At around $79.95, the Discovery delivers comfort, clear vision, and easy handling. It’s an easy recommendation for beginners or as a dependable backup mask.

Oceanic Discovery Up Angle View

Lightweight and Low-Volume Design

Oceanic Discovery Up Close View

Comfortable Silicone Skirt

The Discovery’s 100% silicone skirt provides a comfy, watertight fit that won't let any water seep in. This allows for maximum comfort and relaxed enjoyment of your diving experience, enabling you to become more fully immersed in the underwater environment.

Oceanic Reverse Tear Trop Lens

Reversed Teardrop Dual Lens Design

The reversed teardrop dual lens design of the Discovery Mask allows for an expanded downward view, enabling you to take in more of your underwater surroundings. The two lenses also provide superior optical clarity and a wider field of view.

Oceanic Quick Release Buckle

Easy-to-Adjust Buckle System

The Discovery Mask features an easy-to-adjust buckle system that uses a single rotating handle to make tightening and loosening the mask quick and effortless. What We Like:

✅ Comfortable Silicone Skirt

The Oceanic Discovery uses a 100% silicone skirt that feels soft against the skin and molds well to most medium-sized faces. This makes it forgiving for newer divers who may not always get the strap tension perfect. The skirt provides a good seal without needing to over-tighten, which helps prevent red marks and reduces the chance of leaks. Divers who use it often mention that it’s “easy to wear all day” and that it doesn’t leave the deep facial imprints that stiffer masks sometimes do.

✅ Good All-Around Vision

With its twin teardrop-shaped lenses, the Discovery gives divers a clear, wide field of view. The downward visibility is particularly useful for checking gauges or adjusting gear mid-dive without straining your neck. While it doesn’t provide the panoramic feel of some frameless or single-lens masks, it still delivers enough peripheral vision to make new divers feel comfortable and aware of their surroundings.

✅ Easy Buckle Adjustments

The rotating buckle system makes strap adjustments quick and simple, even when wearing gloves. New divers often struggle with older fixed-buckle systems, but the Discovery’s design reduces that frustration. Being able to fine-tune the strap underwater is especially helpful during training dives, where comfort and ease of use can make or break a student’s first experiences.

✅ Great Price-to-Performance

At around $80, the Discovery stands out as a mask that performs well above its price point. You get a low-volume mask that’s easy to clear, comfortable enough for repeated dives, and reliable for both scuba and snorkeling. For beginners or divers who only get in the water a few times a year, this is a smart investment without overcommitting to premium gear. Experienced divers often keep one as a backup, praising it as “a no-nonsense mask that just works.”

What We Don't Like:

❌ Not Built Like a Tank

While the Discovery’s materials are reliable, it doesn’t have the reinforced frames or premium-grade glass of higher-end masks. Over time, frequent travelers or heavy users might notice the buckles loosening or the skirt losing some of its firmness. With proper rinsing and storage, it can last several seasons, but it’s not designed to withstand the daily wear-and-tear that technical or professional divers put their gear through.

❌ Quick-Release Buckles Not for Everyone

The buckle system is convenient for adjustments, but some divers—particularly those who do more technical or rugged diving—prefer fixed buckles that can’t be accidentally released. In rare cases, overly aggressive adjustments can cause the strap to slip. Recreational divers usually appreciate the convenience, but advanced divers may see it as a potential weak point.

The Verdict

The Oceanic Discovery is a simple, low-volume twin-lens mask that’s easy to wear and easy to use. It’s ideal for beginners, casual divers, snorkelers, or anyone who wants a reliable backup at a friendly price. If you need premium glass, a heavier frame, or tech-oriented hardware, look higher in Oceanic’s line. Otherwise, this is a smart, no-frills pick.

Oceanic Discovery: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if this mask will fit my face?

Does it support prescription lenses?

There are no official Oceanic drop-in corrective lenses, but several Rx labs can custom-grind lenses for the Discovery.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes. The low volume, soft skirt, and easy buckles make it beginner-friendly and easy to clear.
