Fit and Comfort

The Freedom HD uses TUSA’s Freedom skirt technology, which combines different silicone thicknesses, textured dimples, and support ridges. This allows the mask to mold to a wide range of face shapes, especially medium to wide. The skirt holds a secure seal without needing to overtighten the strap, so it stays comfortable on longer dives.

Field of Vission

With its large single lens, the Freedom HD delivers one of the widest fields of view you’ll find in a mask. Peripheral vision is excellent, and the downward view is equally strong, making it easier to check your gauges or keep track of fins. For underwater photographers or divers who like full awareness, this wide lens design makes a noticeable difference.

Build Quality

The frame feels sturdy, and the rotating buckle system is well built. The 3D strap design reduces wear points, while the silicone skirt retains its flexibility over time. Divers often report that the mask holds up after repeated use in both saltwater and fresh environments. Overall, it gives the impression of a mask that will last.

Clearing & Equalization

Despite the large lens, the Freedom HD maintains a relatively low internal volume. Clearing is quick with a single exhale, and the nose pocket is easy to pinch for equalization, even with thick gloves. Some divers with smaller faces may find it a little larger than ideal, but for those it fits, clearing and equalization remain straightforward.

Value For Money

The Freedom HD sits in the mid-to-high price range compared to other masks. While it’s not the cheapest option, the combination of wide field of vision, comfort, and build quality makes the cost justifiable. For divers who struggle to find a mask that fits wide faces, it represents strong value.

All you need to know about the Tusa Freedom HD

You will find that the TUSA Freedom HD combines several design details that set it apart from other masks. Each feature is aimed at improving your vision, comfort, and fit. Below are a few of the standout features that make this mask stand out from others in its category.

Panoramic Single-Lens Design

The single wide lens provides a nearly unobstructed field of view. You get excellent peripheral and downward vision, which makes it easier to track your surroundings underwater without turning your head.

Freedom Skirt Technology

The skirt uses varied silicone thickness, dimples, and stability ridges to adapt to different face shapes. This improves the seal while keeping pressure low, so the mask feels secure without squeezing uncomfortably.

180° Rotating Buckle System

The buckle rotates vertically to adjust to the angle of the strap on your head. This helps distribute pressure evenly and makes the mask more comfortable on wider faces. It also folds flat, which is useful for travel.

3D Strap Design

Instead of a flat strap, the Freedom HD uses a contoured 3D strap that matches the natural curve of your head. This keeps the strap stable and reduces the need for constant adjustments during a dive.

Low-Volume Profile

Even though the lens is large, the mask keeps internal volume low. That makes it easier to clear water out and equalize at depth, saving you effort on longer dives.

What We Like:

✅ Wide Single-Lens Design

The panoramic lens gives you excellent peripheral and downward vision. You don’t need to turn your head as much to keep track of your surroundings, which adds comfort and confidence on dives.

✅ Freedom Skirt for Wide Faces

The skirt adapts well to medium and wide face shapes, sealing securely without extra strap tension. Divers who often struggle with leaks around the temples or jawline usually find this mask a better fit.

✅ 180° Rotating Buckle System

The rotating buckle pivots with the angle of the strap, reducing pressure points on the head. It also folds flat when packed, making it convenient for travel or as a backup mask.

✅ Durable Frame and Silicone Construction

The framed design and thick silicone skirt give the mask a sturdy build. It holds up to repeated dives in saltwater, rinsing, and regular use without losing flexibility or shape.

What We Don't Like:

❌ Too Large for Smaller Faces

The mask’s wide skirt can sit uncomfortably high on the forehead for divers with smaller faces. In some cases, it may not achieve a reliable seal, making it less versatile across all face sizes.

❌ Higher Price Point

The Freedom HD costs more than many basic masks. While its features justify the investment for divers who need the fit, those on a tighter budget may prefer more affordable alternatives.

The Verdict

The TUSA Freedom HD is a strong choice for divers who want maximum visibility and a mask that fits wider faces comfortably. Its panoramic single lens and Freedom skirt technology make it easy to see clearly while maintaining a solid seal for long dives.

The rotating buckle and 3D strap add to overall comfort, and the build quality holds up well over time. It may not suit smaller faces, and the price is higher than entry-level options, but for the right diver, it delivers excellent value.

This mask is best suited for recreational divers, underwater photographers, and anyone who struggles to find a mask that seals well on a larger face.
